LEARN, UNLEARN AND RELEARN - EXECUTIVE EDUCATION CHANGING CAREERS !

The current technology which we all are proud of would probably be a matter of antique stock after 20-30 years for the successive generation as pagers and telegrams are for us in this 21st century. Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gull wing made in 1955 is today known as a vintage car and the cars we use right now would be called a vintage car by the forthcoming generation.

The motto behind stating these instances is to bring into notice the significance of changing our mindsets and the knowledge we store with the changing time. We need to learn with every passing day and every possible moment.

Our boundary of learning is not limited to our graduation or any degree but the actual lessons of life are taught to us when we enter into our careers and professional fields.

“The illiterate of 21st century will not be those who cannot read or write but those who cannot LEARN, UNLEARN OR RELEARN.” - Alvin Toffler

Let’s enumerate learning, unlearning and relearning.
LEARNING- It is a continuous process where one gains knowledge right from the birth and it is practiced, spoken and taught to others over a period of time. We examine our knowledge in different spheres. Such knowledge is taught to us by our culture, society, family, schools and peer groups. It is more of a chance than of a choice.
When we imply learning with respect to the executive education, it refers to the knowledge we grasped in educational institutions i.e. schools and colleges for primary and secondary studies respectively that too before entering into any professional work areas. It is learning of facts and study under the guidance of our teachers for entering into a professional life.

UNLEARNING- As time passes, the stock of knowledge we store becomes stale and obsolete as the successive generation and even our counterparts are continuously developing something new and fresh about which we don’t possess knowledge. So we need to unlearn the stuff learned earlier or need to widen the arena of our knowledge.
When we connote unlearning with professional careers, it is the time when the entire globe is running in the fastest mode with respect to knowledge and innovation and the learning we learned has become insufficient, obsolete & inappropriate. So it’s the time when one start erasing the learning which has become old, gained in the phase of learning so as to grasp new facts and methods.

RELEARNING- This is the phase where one has to start right from the basics and one has to learn with a complete unique outlook. This requires research and scrutiny of the facts running around your milieu. Relearning when compared with executive education is the period when we desire to learn new modes of study to fight with the stiff competition and to stand hard in front of the world.

So it’s the time when we prefer executive education to remove the limitation of working in a single work area and that too with obsolete mode or method. And thanks to technology that executive learning can be done through online mode.
